About DAVID GARDNER

Born in the High Desert area of Southern California, Dave Gardner soon discovered the glory and power of clean natural landscapes. Influenced early on by the emerging environmental movement.  Finding the beauty within the unloved, discarded, and forgotten, that is what inspires his passion.

Dave has always cared for the underdog, the forgotten, the lost it is reflected in his art. His photography frequently is focused on the minute details that are missed by the casual observer. The picture of the homeless at Christmas, the details of dew on a dying leaf, the path of water going down the drain reflect this. During his early education, Dave studied Photography. It was magical. His photographic career now covers several decades, and his current photographic work focuses on the abstract, taking objects that are traditionally under appreciated and rarely observed. Highlighting their positive aspects from his unique point of view is what you see in his Photographic work. In addition to photography and woodworking, Dave currently works in the artistic mediums of contemporary multimedia painting, sculpture, abstract textiles, landscape design, custom cabinetry, and Bonsai.

Nature, the responsibility of taking care of it, conserving it, and only using what is necessary are constant themes in his life, and are reflected in his artwork and sculpting. As such recycling materials play an important role in the development of each art piece. Many times it would be  quicker to purchase materials and adapt them, but them the resulting art would not have the spirit that he desires. Each piece of artwork has its soul, its energy. Art made of commercially purchased materials just don’t evoke the same energy and spirit that pieces made from reclaimed, recycled or forgotten materials have. Some pieces take years to find just the right materials, others happen in an instant for some reason. It’s all about finding the balance of the energy. Some call it the balance of the yin and the yang, Dave just knows when a work is right for his artistic endeavors.

Dave is often asked what his art is made of, or what is in a photograph. Answering that question takes the magic out of the equation. It removes the joy and personal creativity that exists within the observer and short circuits their journey with art.
